Dimapur, Aug. 11 (EMN): Commemorating the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence (Azad Ka Amrit Mahotsav), a flag rally was organised at Noklak and Peren towns on August 11.
Speaking on the occasion, the deputy commissioner of Noklak, Hiazu Meru, briefed the youth on how India got its independence in 1947 from the British rule and advised them to contribute in whatever possible way for the progress of the country, a DIPR report stated.
He expressed hope that along with the rest of the country, Noklak, the newest district of Nagaland, would also march towards the goals of progress and development. Meru further expressed gratitude to all the volunteers who took part in the programme.
The flag rally started at main town and proceeded to DC’s office complex where a short programme was held.
To mark the occasion, a plantation drive along the roadsides of Noklak town was also conducted. The programme was organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra Tuensang (Noklak Unit), in collaboration with Noklak district administration, with SDO (Civil) C Phuniang, and the EAC Sadar Noklak, P Pukha Lam as officers-in-charge.
In a relation programme, a youth march was held in Peren town where the participants undertook a march from Government Higher Secondary School till the office of the additional deputy commissioner, Peren.
Speaking at the programme, the additional deputy commissioner, Mhathung Tsanglao, highlighted the significance of the march and said that it was inspired by Gandhi’s march. The ADC encouraged the youth to stand on their own feet and be self-reliant. Volunteers of National Service Scheme (NSS) from Government College and Nehru Yuva Kendra, Peren, along with officials from the district administration and information and public relations department took part in the event.
