WOKHA — Not satisfied with the response of the district administration, concerned department and contractor, the Wokha district civil society organisations (CSOs) and joint action committee (JAC) intensified its ongoing indefinite bandh by shutting all business establishments and restricting vehicular movement across the district on Saturday. However, agitation, which entered the third day, passed off peacefully.
The organisations initiated the protest after its demand to construction firm TTC Infra Pvt. Ltd. (contractor), state’s National Highway department and the district administration to immediately begin of works along the National Highway-2 from 72.400 to 83.00 km fell on deaf ears.
The offices of Deputy Commissioner and SDO (NH) Wokha were also sealed as the agitation intensified on Saturday. “This office is locked by the Lotha CSOs and JAC in protest against the inaction of this office,” read the note pasted at the gates of officials.
On day three, the gathering comprising leaders of student bodies, youths, women leaders and citizens of Wokha town were briefed about the ongoing agitation by the leaders of JAC and Lotha Hoho at Police Point Wokha.
The organisations spearheading the protest said that the bandh would be continued in the district.
The DC Wokha had on Friday requested the CSOs to keep the agitation in abeyance, saying that the contractor had been served a “final” 10-day notice to resume the road construction work, but it was turned down.
