Kohima, Aug. 14 (EMN): Nagaland Police on Saturday organised a national flag rally and group run in Kohima on Saturday morning in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of India’s independence (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav).
The run was flagged off from Secretariat Plaza and culminated at Police Point in PR Hill, Kohima.
More than 250 personnel, including senior police officers led by Nagaland Deputy General of Police, T John Longkumer participated in the event, it was informed.
Longkumer informed during the culminating programme at the Police Headquarters (PHQ) in PR Hill, that Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was launched across the country on March 12 this year to commemorate the 75th year of Indian Independence.
The words 'Azadi Ka Amrit' literally means "nectar of freedom," he said, adding that the prime minister, who launched the programme, had described it as 'the elixir of energy of freedom,’
“It is the nectar of inspiration from the freedom fighters. It is the nectar of new ideas, new resolutions, and self reliance which will inspire the generation to come,” he stated.
While paying tribute and homage to the freedom fighters of the country who sacrificed and laid down their lives to secure a better future for all, he called upon the citizens to dedicate themselves to unitedly "safeguard the gifts our freedom fighters have given to us and to secure the nectar of freedom for the generation to come".
The event was also attended by IGAR (N), Jt. Director SIB, DIG (CRPF), ADC Kohima and senior officers of Police Headquarters in Kohima.
Meanwhile, the national anthem was performed by the DGP band while a special song 'Vande Mataram' was presented by the Mahila band.
