Dimapur, July 16, 2021: Commemorating the 75th Bharat Amrut Mahotsav and the 93rd ICAR foundation day, School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD), Nagaland University, Medziphema campus, participated in a tree plantation campaign on July 16 on the theme ‘Har med per ped.’
An update from SASRD stated that its faculty and staff joined the virtual inaugural function from SASRD conference hall, which was addressed and launched by Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (Dare) and Director General of ICAR. They also joined the tree plantation campaign with the rest of ICAR institutes, KVKs and agricultural universities across the country to ensure livelihood and environmental security to humankind.
It stated that the plantation campaign was kick-started by pro-vice-chancellor, Prof. M Aleminla Ao, and the dean of SASRD, Prof. Akali Sema. The planting materials were provided by the assistant conservator of forest, Dimapur.
Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): The minority department of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has appealed to include one member from the state in the AICC minority department as coordinator and to establish a Northeast Congress minority department with all the chairmen from eight states as members.
The appeal was made during a meeting and workshop of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) minority department with all the state chairmen and working chairmen of the minority department held on July 15 in New Delhi.
The state chairman, Rajesh Kumar Sethi, informed that the NPCC minority department was represented by the Delhi unit led by Rakovi Domeh and submitted a report on its yearly activities.
Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): A meeting of the administrative head of departments (AHOD) and head of departments (HOD) would be held on July 19 at 1 pm in the Secretariat conference hall, Kohima.
The meeting could be attended virtually on http:meet.google.com/rrt-dwcv-qhx.
According to a DIPR report, the meeting would deliberate on the attendance of head of offices and staff in districts, directorates and secretariat including vaccination coverage amongst the officers/ staff; upcoming eighth session of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from August 3; Nagaland rules of executive business, 2020- adherence thereof; list of legal advisors/ consultants/ retainers appointed by the various departments and directorates on a full-time basis or on various terms and conditions and updating the email and other contact details of the various departments in the government websites.
All AHoDs and HoDs are asked to attend the meeting.
Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): Dimapur Government College (DGC) bade farewell to its retiring assistant professor, Dr. Tainla Mar, during a programme held on July 16.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Benjongkumba, while speeches were delivered by the principal-in-charge Kezhaleu Hesso, DGCTA president Supong Jamir, and head of Education department Diethoseu Mepfhuo. Various speakers have described her as a sincere, hardworking and dedicated teacher, who possessed natural teaching skills. They have attributed to her zeal and love for learning for which she was conferred with a doctorate degree towards the end of her service.
The retiring officer, in her speech, recalled her initial years of teaching career when she started as a post-graduate teacher. Likening DGC to home, the retiring teacher stated that she has many good memories to take with her. She also thanked the DGC family especially the department of Education for the support and cooperation during her stay in the college.
The programme concluded with a special prayer said by associate professor Rebainla Ao.
Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): The deputy commissioner of Peren, Sentiwapang Aier, has convened a meeting of the district task force (DTF) and district Covid vaccination committee members on July 19 in his office’s conference hall at 12 noon.
The DC has requested all the concerned members to attend the meeting.
Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): Minister of Planning and Coordination, Neiba Kronu, has appreciated the NHIDCL for taking timely decision to terminate Gayatri Projects Ltd. (GPL) from EPC mode contract worth INR 340 crores for "4-laning" Kohima to Dimapur road.
He also appreciated the landmark judgement on the dismissal of the writ petition filed by the GPL against the termination of the contract by the Guwahati High Court, Kohima Bench. Kronu added that the public had suffered enough because of the irresponsible contractors in many ways.
“Enough is enough and the time has come for the people of Nagaland to appreciate such decision of NHIDCL and the Hon'ble Guwahati High Court,” Kronu added and appealed to all stakeholders to join hands together and appreciate such decision of the corporation and the court for better future.
Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) informed that the Chief Minister's Meritorious Students Fellowship (CMMSF) felicitation programme for 50 students who secured top ranks in the HSLC Examination 2020 conducted by the NBSE would be held virtually on July 19 at 10 am.
Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): The Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland (IRCSN) distributed a total of 40 oxygen concentrators received from its national headquarters as well as other items such as masks, utensils, blankets, T-shirts etc. to various districts in Nagaland.
The distribution was carried out during its exclusive meeting with the respective honourary secretaries of all the district branches in Nagaland on July 13. An update from IRCSN stated that few officials from the state branch including its chairperson Abeni TCK, and Dr. Kepelhusie Terhuja also attended the programme.
As per guidelines from the national headquarter, the district branches would utilise the oxygen concentrators in consultation with hospitals, health units and medical doctors. During the meeting, the use of oxygen concentrators was demonstrated to the participants by Dr Kepelhusie Terhuja.
The house also discussed the need to be vigilant in the event of a third-wave and be prepared to address two issues namely vaccine hesitancy and Covid appropriate behaviours. The members were specifically asked to address vaccine hesitancy in villages.
Besides, members have also discussed the urgent need for ambulances for Longleng, Mon, Zunheboto, Peren, and Noklak. Abeni TCK also exhorted the members.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by its general secretary, Dr. Neiphi Kire.
Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): Mon district planning and development board (DPDB) felicitated toppers of the HSLC and HSSLC 2020 from Mon district during its meeting held on July 15.
Toppers of HSLC 2020 are Lynee Konyak W, Wangyuh Konyak Y, Keamying, Mitali Chauhan, Hangpo Shongpohru, while the toppers of HSSLC 2020 (Arts) are M Phoawang, Changlang Y, Phangnyo Konyak, Ayin Wangsha, Ngipam S Konyak and HSSLC 2020 (Science) are Watlong, Nachat Rebecca and Lily Mongyu.
A DIPR report stated that the board has approved two proposals for registration namely Ahng Kins Foundation in Sheanghah Mokok Village and the setting up of Sainik School in Mon.
Following the DPDB meeting, the Road Safety Committee meeting was held in which the ADC Mon and administrator Mon Town Council, chief medical officer (CMO), and district education officer (DEO) were appointed as members.
Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): A coordination meeting of all the heads of departments under the Medziphema sub-division was held on July 16 under the chairmanship of the ADC, Imsongmeren, in his office chamber.
Speaking at the meeting, the ADC reminded the members to render and support each other as a team in delivering service to the public. He also emphasised coordination from all the departments for the upcoming Independence Day celebration.
A DIPR report stated that SDAO, Rosemary, has highlighted the plight of farmers and the intervention of departments on projects in various villages, while the SDO of PHED, Medziphema, Ichirang Zeliang briefed on the Jal Jeevan mission in the urban sector.
The report also stated that the medical officer of CHC Medziphema, Dr. Temsu, has highlighted the Covid situation and the importance of Covid care, while the SDO of PWD (R&B), Kihozhe, briefed on the roads and bridges condition in the sub-division.
Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): Commemorating the ‘World Youth Skills Day,’ Anma Integrated Development Association (Aida) under the SBI Foundation - Gram Seva Programme, in collaboration with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Dimapur, organised a one-day training on mushroom cultivation at Aida Don Bosco on July 15.
The training was focused on livelihood skill development and youth empowerment based on the ‘World Youth Skills Day’ theme “Reimagining youth skills post-pandemic.” The objective of the training, according to Aida, was to provide skills and training to unemployed youth to ensure better livelihood opportunities and also channelise youth energy into constructive, social activities and creating youth leadership.
The resource person from ICAR Nagaland Centre, Dr. Aabon Yanthan, who specialised in mushroom and post-harvest technology, demonstrated the practical procedure for mushroom cultivation.
Dr. Yanthan also appreciated the contribution of SBI foundation through Aida for rural people.
Altogether, 33 youth from the five adopted villages namely Khriezephe, Diezephe, Bade, Tsithrongse and Urra under the SBI Gram Seva programme attended the training.
Rev. Fr. Roy George SDB, Aida executive director, invoked God’s blessing, while Rev. Fr. TT Joseph SDB, Aida associate director, welcomed the participants.
Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): Western Sümi Kükami Hoho (WSKH) has resolved not to entertain any form of taxation from any Naga political groups on the agri-allied and forest products within its jurisdiction during the current pandemic period when the entire community especially the farming community has been hard hit due to nationwide lockdown and the land is not yielding a good harvest.
The resolution to this effect was taken in a joint meeting with the advisory board, chairmen of all Western Sümi areas held on July 15 at Western Sümi Hoho Hiyam.
WSKH also reiterated the demand for an early solution to the vexed issue which has been eluding despite the centre and Naga political groups concluding a successful round of talks over the years. The hoho further stated that it is the opportune time for the Nagas to ask for a solution as the government at the centre was also eager to resolve Naga political issue at the earliest.

Speaking on the occasion, Sema shared that they have taken a bold step to launch the car despite risks involved during lockdown due to the pandemic. Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): While appreciating the Nagaland chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, for obtaining the ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) for setting up an airport at the state capital Kohima, the Nagaland Public Rights Awareness and Action Forum (NPRAAF) has questioned whether NOC from the defence ministry was good enough to go ahead with the purchase of land and construction of approach road and other needful development for establishing an airport.
An NPRAAF’s statement through its information and publicity cell also urged the chief minister to enlighten “whether the ministry of defence or civil aviation ministry is the right body to conduct the survey and issue NOC.”
NPRAAF also questioned whether the Airport Authority of India (AAI) had conducted a survey and issued eco-techno, feasibility and safety clearance for the development of greenfield airport at proposed Chiethu airport.
Stating that it is a matter of pride to establish an airport at the state capital and that everyone should support such phenomenal initiatives, NPRAAF pointed out that it was not about NOC issued by the defence ministry but the crux of the matter was “why the government has to acquire such a colossal area of land to be paid compensation without obtaining feasibility report and technical clearance from the AAI and civil aviation ministry.”
Terming the issue as ‘paramount public importance,’ NPRAAF, therefore, urged the chief minister to clarify saying, “The issue doesn't only relate to the development and paying off huge compensation but concerns the safety of future air passengers, which cannot be taken lightly.”
Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): Tangha village and its adjoining Amosen village under Yongnyah block in Longleng district have achieved the distinction of 100% Covid-19 vaccinated village on July 14.
The first vaccination drive in the village started on April 16, where all beneficiaries were vaccinated except some members due to some health issues. However, those who were missed out were vaccinated in the following sessions conducted in the health unit, an update from the chief medical officer’s (CMO) office stated.
It stated that both villages have vaccinated all eligible populations with 100% of 2nd doses for 45 years and above and 100% of 1st doses for 18 years and above. It added that the village task force comprising of the village council, village guards, student organisations and church leaders joined hands and came forward with a determination to vaccinate all its eligible citizens with the Covid-19 vaccine.
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner and DTF chairman of Longleng, M Shayung Phom, has congratulated Tangha village for being the first village in Longleng district to be declared 100% vaccinated village. He also congratulated community health officer, Lorenbeni Humtsoe, and her entire team, Tangha village council, village guards and the students’ organisation for their help and support throughout the vaccination period.
He also expressed gratitude to Dr. Imnameren Phom, DPO (RCH/UIP), and the vaccination team for their relentless sacrifice in making the dream of achieving 100% vaccination a reality. He further appealed and encouraged all the villages in Longleng to come forward and get vaccinated stating that vaccine is the only weapon against the pandemic at this juncture.
Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): Chümoukedima block of the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (Atma), in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Dimapur, organised a one-day training and demonstration programme on “Scientific management for fish production” at Eralibill village on July 13.
An update from Atma informed that the assistant fishery inspector and resource person, Adiezenuo Dolie, has emphasised proper pond management and selection of quality fish seeds as the primary requisite for fish culture. She also suggested the application of pre-stocking pond management techniques to ensure the proper survival and growth of fish.
Besides, she also spoke on a composite fish culture where five to six different fish species could be grown together in a single pond. She added that in mixed fish farming, all ecological zones are efficiently used as there is no competition among different fish species and maximum fish production is obtained at a lesser cost.
After the training, demonstration on the estimation of pond pH, the establishment of planktons, liming and turbidity were carried out by the resource person with the active participation of the farmers.
After the programme, 20 bags of fingerlings were distributed to the participants.
Altogether, 15 fish farmers along with one official and four Atma functionaries attended the day-long programme.
In a separate programme, Atma Zunheboto block has organised a one-day training programme on ‘Package of practices of sericulture' at district sericulture office, Zunheboto, on July 14.
The report stated that the sericulture extension officer, Jepika H Yeptho, has equipped the participants with detailed information on the rearing of Eri silkworms from hatching to mount. It added that BTM Chubatsur Jamir enlightened the participants with the techniques of making compost from the sericulture waste products and also explained the economic importance of sericulture in Nagaland.
Altogether, 15 participants from different villages under the Zunheboto block attended the training. It further added that participants were provided Eri silkworm host plant saplings.
Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): Nagaland Alliance for Children and Women’s Rights (NACWR) expressed astonishment over the recent incidents pertaining to the rape of a six-year-old minor girl by her 34-year-old uncle at Bank Colony in Dimapur on July 6 and the sexual assault of a minor on June 20 at Aboi in Mon district.
NACWR, while strongly condemning such kind of sexual abuse on minor girls, requested the law-keeping authority to deliver justice to the victim and also award befitting punishment to the accused persons.
NACWR was also shocked to learn about the recent physical abuse of an 11-year-old minor child at Sangtemla ward in Mokokchung town.
“The lady used a weapon like a hammer and a knife heated in a fire to cut the child’s arm. This kind of non-cognizable offence should be dealt with very seriously,” demanded NACWR.
It further appealed to the law enforcement authority to take strict action as per the relevant provision of law against the culprit.
Meanwhile, Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD) also condemned the shameful crime of rape committed against a minor girl of 11 years old at Bank Colony.
NWHD has termed the act ‘unacceptable and disgraceful’ as the culprit was known to be a close relative of the victim. It added that the incident has roused many questions on the security of women in a Christian state.
With an increase in such cases, NWHD urged the law-enforcing authorities to be more transparent with the punishment awarded to the culprits. It also demanded justice to the victim and her family by awarding befitting punishment to the culprit without further delay.
Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): The research committee of Peren Government College (PGC), in collaboration with the Patent Information Centre (PIC), department of science and technology, government of Nagaland, organised a webinar on ‘Intellectual property rights’ on July 15.
The webinar was organised with Dr. Nesatalu Hiese, Scientist-D and patent information in charge of Nagaland Science and Technological Council (Nastec), department of science and technology, Nagaland, and Gihukali Chishi, technical assistant of Nastec, as resource persons, an update from the college stated.
During the session, Dr. Hiese presented an overview of Intellectual property rights, while Chishi emphasised on copyright and its applications and opportunities for the Nagas to preserve their heritage and rights.
The programme was hosted by the college’s assistant professor Dr. Hulin, while the concept note was presented by assistant professor Dr. Achumi Ezung. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the assistant professor and IQAC coordinator, Igong Ipuing.
Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): Nagaland Police Family Welfare Association (NPFWA) along with Leena Tamgadge, wife of ADGP (Admn) Sandeep M Tamgadge and managing director of Arobic Remedies and Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., donated medicines to unit hospitals during a programme held at the conference hall of the Police Headquarters (PHQ) on July 14.
Speaking at the programme, Leena Tamgadge stated that the initiative of donating medicines was done so with the hope to benefit the jawans and their families. She further expressed her willingness to help in the future.
Polem Kikon, wife of ADGP (L&O) Renchamo P Kikon, spoke on behalf of the DGP’s wife, while NPFWA president Mesangla Longkumer expressed her gratitude to Tamgadge for the act of benevolence and further highlighted the activities of the association.
The programme was also attended by Reshmi Saravanan, wife of special secretary (Home) SR Saravanan, and Saranya Manoj, wife of SP (crime) Manojkumar A.
