MUK celebrates Chithuni festival

DIMAPUR — The Mao Union Kohima (MUK) celebrated Chithuni festival on January 7 at MUK community hall, Officers' Hill, Kohima.

The celebration was attended by community elders besides the MUK, Mao Women Union Kohima, Mao Students’ Union Kohima and MDUK office bearers, an update stated.

D Lokho, who spoke on the significance of Chithuni, shared that the festival marks the end of a year and the beginning of a new one and that the rituals practiced during the festival are a means of expression of gratitude to God for the bountiful harvest and for guidance and prosperity in the new year too.

“Therefore, the celebration of Chithuni today signifies our gratitude to God, along with the feasting and sharing of foods and drinks in thanksgiving,” he said, while exhortations were shared by elders P Sani and N Asholi.

In his welcome address, president H Dihe highlighted the activities of the MUK and encouraged all the community members present in the programme to contribute their best to the society's progress.

The meeting was chaired by D Neli Koso, vice president of MUK.

Earlier, Pfokreni Dominic, Catechist, offered invocation. The vote of thanks was rendered by Mikrio Kayina, joint secretary of MUK, while George Arche, assistant pastor of MBCK, pronounced benediction.

The festive get-together concluded with a grand community feast, it stated.
