KOHIMA — Director of Higher Education, Dr. A Nshoga on Tuesday told the graduates to make good use of the qualifications they acquired to help others and improve themselves and also serve the nation in the larger interest of the people.
He stated this while speaking at the 37th convocation programme of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Kohima regional centre, at the Capital Convention Centre in Kohima as guest of honour. He advised the graduates to familiarise themselves with the latest technological development in order to excel and positively contribute to the progress of the society.
He commended IGNOU for making the quality of higher education accessible and affordable to all sections of people through open and distance learning programmes in enabling higher education learning towards the marginalised and socio-economically disadvantaged groups (SEDG), differently abled persons (DAP) and even inmates in correctional facilities nationwide.
Highlighting the various initiatives and features of learning in IGNOU, the director pointed out that the university is making education accessible to a broader demographic including working professionals, homemakers and individuals from remote areas.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mayonmi Shimray, regional director and in-charge of IGNOU, informed that the main convocation function is being held at IGNOU headquarters in New Delhi with Jagdeep Dhankar, vice president of India, as the chief guest.
He informed that during the 37th convocation of the university, more than 3 lakh degrees, diplomas and certificates would be conferred to the successful students spread all over the country and abroad.
Dr. Shimray informed that Kohima centre has 980 eligible students including 723 in Master's degrees, 122 in bachelor's degrees, 88 in diplomas and 47 certificates.
Around 240 candidates are present to receive the degree certificates.
He also informed that Kohima centre was established on December 14, 2000, and has established 16 study centres across the state with 12 examination centres covering all districts.
Ongnetchanger Longkumer, Hekhuli and Shilpa Bhowmick, who were among the graduates, shared their experiences.
