Diphu, June 10 (EMN): The Kuki National Assembly (KNA), a social apex body of the indigenous tribal Kuki people of Karbi Anglong, Assam on Thursday expressed their consent for the peace accord to be signed between the Central govt. and extremists outfits of Karbi Anglong and reminded the union govt. of its inclusion.
An update from the Assembly stated, ‘KNA is elated at the prospect of finally paving the way for the settlement of Karbi Anglong political problem, by the signing of an accord between the government of India and the six different Karbi political groups. The much awaited peace settlement is expected to ultimately usher in the era of peace and tranquillity for all concerned in the district. It is the long cherished dream of the people of Karbi Anglong to witness such an event and appreciate the leadership of Dr. Himanta Biswas Sharma, the chief minister of Assam and the CEM of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang’.
‘The KNA would like to remind the state as well as the union government that the Kukis as a community within Karbi Anglong should be included in the political accord and not denied their fair share as a minority ethnic community. The demand for Kuki regional autonomous council within Karbi Anglong spanning for more than three decades should also be part of the political accord, which will reflect the genuine concern for Karbi Anglong and its people’ it read.
