DIMAPUR — Nagaland Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye, has highlighted the necessity and potentiality of inland water transport in the state, taking into consideration the topography of the landlocked state bordering Myanmar.
Keeping in mind the central government’s 'Look East Policy,' Kenye requested the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways to expedite the execution of the National Waterways 101 Tizu-Zungki project, which has been in the pipeline for many years.
Kenye was speaking during the first Inland Waterways Development Council meeting held at Kolkata on Jan. 8 under the chairmanship of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, an update informed.
He also highlighted the need to take up techno-economic feasibility studies for National Waterways 31 Dhansari, for cargo and traffic movement and Doyang reservoir dam to promote water tourism.
The minister was accompanied by officials from the state Transport department including Dr. Zasekuolie Chusi, Secretary; Sentiwapang Aier Addl. Secretary; Myingthungo Ababe Ezung, OST Transport and Thomas Y Kiutsangmong, DGM of NST.
