DIPHU — Police recovered 49.94 gm of heroin from Bashbari Sunday Market under Khatkhati Police Station under Karbi Anglong on January 9.

The recovery was made during an operation following specific information. Police sources informed that the drugs were recovered from a rented house occupied by one Sofikul Ali alias Kani (23), a resident of Lahorijan Sunday Market, under Khatkhati police station, Karbi Anglong.

Police recovered 4 plastic soap cases containing heroin weighing a total of 49.94 gm worth INR 5 lakh in the market.

It was informed that Sofikul Ali, while being arrested, allegedly tried to snatch the pistol from a policeman during which he fell on the ground and sustained a head injury.

The recovered heroin was seized in presence of independent witnesses and a case was registered.
