Karbi Anglong organisations demand strict action against rape and murder accused; threaten agitation

DIPHU — Civil society organisations of Karbi Anglong on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the district commissioner, demanding swift and stringent action against the accused in the recent rape and murder case of a 12-year-old minor girl in the district.

Expressing shock and outrage, the Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong (KNCA), Karbi Students’ Association (KSA), Karbi Anglong Women Justice Forum (KAWJF), All India Progressive Women Association (APIWA), All India Students’ Association (AISA), Hills Committee, Students and Youth for Justice (SYJ) and Serpinding Serdihun Pirthak Asong (SSPA) demanded that the culprit be brought to justice as per the POCSO Act and section 302 of the IPC.

The organisations warned that they would be for compelled to take to the street and stage a strong protest if the authorities fail to punish the culprit as per the law of the land.

They also demanded the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) to take the strong measures to ensure the security of women in the district.
