KOHIMA — Mezivolu T Therieh, principal judge of the Family Court, Kohima, and former OSD registrar at the Supreme Court of India, has been awarded the prestigious 'EMW International Women Embodiment of Peace Award 2024' in the category of 'Mediation and Law'.
She is one of the 24 awardees from India, the USA, Singapore, Nigeria, and the Netherlands, who were acknowledged for their contributions in various fields.
Therieh was honoured with the award "for her commitment and dedicated efforts in building a harmonious society through her contributions and services in the field of law and justice."
Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, a judge of the Supreme Court, presented the awards to the awardees during the E-Mediation Writings (EMW) International awards ceremony held online on April 9.
"This occasion has enabled me to re-dedicate myself to the cause of peace, be a peacemaker, and advocate mediation," Therieh told Eastern Mirror upon receiving the award and added that, being closely knitted with the tribal society and having a strong community bond, she holds mediation very closely to her heart since most of their cases and conflicts are settled through mediation and reconciliation.
As a former OSD registrar at the Supreme Court of India, Therieh shared that she was specially assigned to the work of mediation. During her time in that role, she conducted and supervised numerous mediation training programmes across India. Additionally, she engaged with member secretaries and directors of state legal services authorities and mediation centres to promote the importance of mediation.
During her tenure, the first pan-India mediation directory was launched. She also organised a "train-the-trainers" programme with trainers from the United States at the Supreme Court, assessed cases referred by the Supreme Court, and worked with the mediators to dispose of the referred cases through mediation.
Furthermore, the new mediation centre in the Supreme Court was also inaugurated under her supervision, she shared.
Congratulating Therieh, the EMW team stated that her efforts as member secretary of the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee have been unparalleled. "Your hard work has played a crucial role in bringing hundreds of judicial officers and advocates to mediation. EMW is proud and delighted to have the opportunity to recognise such efforts," it added.
It may be mentioned that EMW recognises and felicitates women who have made significant contributions to various fields, including mediation, community services, police, media, women entrepreneurship, medicine, education, law, sports, and other areas of peacekeeping.
