Kohima, Sep. 13 (EMN): The 10th inter district catch them young tournament 2017 got underway on Wednesday at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima under the aegis of department of Youth Resources & Sports.
T. Sashimongba Joint Secretary YR&S, gracing the occasion as the special guest said the concept of “Catch them Young" Tournament is to tap the hidden talents of the young ones and nurture them.
Stating that Nagas are not short of talents, from the success in the junior categories at national & regional level competitions, however, lamented that when the youngsters go up to senior level, they cannot sustain this success, which shows that they are not disciplined or determined. The success at junior level which cannot be sustained is meaningless or useless, said T. Sashimongba.
He hoped the participants this year will prove to be different from their seniors and maintain the 3 Ds (discipline dedication and determined) in their chosen field and pursue their dreams bringing success and laurels for our State.
Noting on the brief history, he said Nagaland is the first state in India to organise "Catch them Young" tournament way back in 1974, but unfortunately it was discontinued in the late eighties, however, after separation of the present Department YRS from the Parent Department of School education, the department (YRS) has realised and revived the policy in the year 2007, and so the policy continues and we are celebrating the 10th "Inter District Catch them young" tournament here in Kohima.
The two-day tournament witnessed 156 participants from all the district of Nagaland taking part in the discipline of athletics, badminton, and marathon for U-14 boys and girls.
