DIMAPUR — To create a conducive environment for the women and youth in Dhansiripar to pursue self-development, Can Youth Livelihood School for Rural Women and Multi-Centre for Youth Resources will be constructed at Hazadisa village under Dhansiripar circle in Chümoukedima district.
Advisor of Industries and Commerce Department, Hekani Jakhalu laid the foundation stone for the school on Wednesday in the presence of N Jacob Yanthan, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Nagaland State Agricultural Produce and Livestock Marketing Board (NSAPLMB).
Jakhalu told the gathering that she was committed to fulfilling her pre-election promises. Maintaining that development encompasses more than just good roads, she said education is important in bringing about progress in a society.
She also lauded Can Youth's founder and chief functionary, Jenpu Rhakho Rongmei, for taking up such a significant initiative, saying that the centre will provide opportunities for many youths and women.
She went on to urge the villagers to contribute to development efforts.
Meanwhile, the Hazadisa Village Council submitted a letter to the advisor during the event, requesting her to construct a road in Hazadisa village area.
On the occasion, Rongmei said that the organisation has successfully confronted numerous challenges faced since its inception in 2014.
Informing that the construction work of the school will commence this month, he called upon the villagers to extend their help and cooperation, emphasising the importance of community involvement and ownership for sustained success of the centre.
Providing an insight into the project, he outlined five key areas of focus -- sustainable livelihood environment, marketing management and financial literacy, gender leadership, fostering youth innovation programme, and reducing rural poverty.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]Among the objectives, Rongmei underscored fostering self-employment through income-generating activities and skill-building training. The project also seeks to enhance the financial literacy of women and young individuals, raising awareness of available and affordable credit sources to support business initiatives, he said.
The initiative also aims to enhance the capacity of women and young people to engage with local and state-level stakeholders, advocating employment-friendly policies. He informed that this involves providing sustainable extension services and entrepreneurial training to improve productivity and access local and other markets.
Accordingly, the proposed activities and timeline include enrolling and training 400 women and youth annually, conducting a three-month course for each batch comprising 50 women and 50 youth, and incubating at least 25 women and 25 youth every year.
Rongmei went on to say that they envision collaborating with various stakeholders to institutionalise the school and multi-centre.
Also speaking at the event, Jacob Yanthan urged the villagers to work collectively to propel the village forward, while emphasising the need for unity to make the project a success.
