DIMAPUR — Former Advisor for Fisheries, Evaluation, Economics and Statistics, L Khumo Khiamniungan, passed away in the early hours of Tuesday morning around 4:30 am at his private residence at Purana Bazaar in Dimapur.
He was 52 years old and was reportedly ailing for some days and undergoing treatment in Guwahati, Assam.
He is survived by his wife and four children.
Before venturing into politics, Khumo earlier served as president of Pang Village Students’ Union from 1996-97; Area Council Member; Secretary VDB Pang Village and also as a lieutenant colonel in one of the Naga political groups
Khumo started his political career by contesting the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly election in 2013 and after his maiden win, he held the portfolio of Parliamentary Secretary for Land Revenue, Village Guards and Women Resource Development.
He was re-elected to the 13th NLA in 2018. However, he lost the 14th NLA 2023 election.
Late Khumo's funeral service will be held at his residence in Dimapur on Tuesday, after which his mortal remains will be taken to his native village Pang in Noklak district for the last rite.
CM Rio, Patton condole
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton have conveyed condolences on demise of former advisor L Khumo.
The chief minister in a condolence message addressed to Khüshe, wife of late Khumo, said that Khumo was a hardworking leader, with a big heart and a good soul.

“In the few years of working together, I found him to be a warm and cheerful person, who genuinely cared for the society’s welfare.
“His demise is a great loss to the Nagas, in general, and to the Khiamniungan community in particular. The vacuum created by his absence will be difficult to fill,” Rio said.
The deputy CM took to X to convey his condolences. “A stalwart who worked tirelessly for the welfare of the people, his contributions and legacy will continue to inspire others,” Patton wrote.
