Dimapur, Aug. 8 (EMN): The Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) has requested the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, not to change the Centre’s interlocutor to Indo-Naga talks, RN Ravi, before the signing of a final agreement.
In a letter addressed to the prime minister, the organisation stated that the ‘demand raised by NSCN (IM) and few frontal civil organisations at this juncture to replace the Ravi is unrealistic and makes no sense at all’.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=6]“This demand will only procrastinate the signing of the final agreement and we have every reason to suspect that it is another ploy by NSCN (IM) just to impress before the general public that the government of India can be easily twisted and turned at their convenience,” read the letter.
It stated that the Naga political groups and the government of India had wrapped up the Indo-Naga political negotiations on October 31, 2019 and hoped that all the parties involved in negotiations are on their final legs to seal the deal by singing the final agreement.
“The whole world is observing the craftsmanship of RN Ravi's political negotiation and his unique ability in dealing with such precarious situation which has brought the Indo-Naga political negotiation up to this stage. It may also be recalled that all previous interlocutors had been talking only to one Naga political group. After he took over as the interlocutor, he managed to rope in most of the Naga political groups, which is a very significant development towards bringing lasting solution to the Nagas.
“Therefore, at this critical juncture, the Government of India should remain firm without backtracking from the commitment and seriousness to solve the Indo-Naga political issue at the earliest under the dynamic Interlocutor, RN Ravi who is also the Governor of Nagaland. Any slight mistake or hasty decision taken by the Government of India at this final stage by succumbing to the pressure base on the unrealistic grounds and demand of one Naga political group could further delay the signing of final agreement, which will only prolong the conflict in the region,” the letter read.
As such, the organisation appealed to Modi to ensure that the present interlocutor is not changed ‘so that the Indo-Naga political issue is solved without any further delay’.
