Addressing a press conference on Tuesday at his office, Phom informed that they are planning to come up with a comprehensive plan to address the present system of waste collection as he reasoned that without addressing to the current waste collection system, cleaning the drainages alone would be meaningless.
He informed that they are already in the process of tying up with some colonies as a pilot project. In this regard, they would be initiating the waste collection system for one residential ward and one commercial ward.
He shared that they would be having interaction with the ward-level authorities, committees and sanitation committees and come up with a comprehensive plan. He informed that the daily waste generated in Dimapur at present stands at around 74 tons per day, which according to him is huge to be tackled and processed.
He expressed hope that the segregation process could be decentralised if the ward-level system proved successful. He, therefore, sought the support and cooperation of all individuals and stakeholders in their endeavours.
Digitisation of trade license
In order to streamline trade license defaulters, DMC will shift to digital system of management from May 1 next after which all the defaulting trade licenses would be cancelled if they fail to come for renewal before April 30.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]Phom informed that 26,000 traders have registered with the municipal council from 2006 till date, whereas only around 7000 traders have renewed annually. He informed that DMC would shift to digitisation of trade license system starting from May 1 and added that traders would be given a dateline till April 30 as the last date for renewal of trade license.
While acknowledging that to streamline all those defaulters is a herculean task on the part of DMC, he was however hopeful that they would be able to streamline with the digitisation of trade license.
He also updated that under the new regime, they are planning to come up with changes in terms and conditions of the trade license. He informed that the trade license of those who failed to renew within the stipulated period would be cancelled and made to apply for fresh one starting from May 1 with certain terms and conditions.
He added that during the first registration, the licensee should deposit a security equivalent to the annual trade license fee which would be maintained in the DMC account. In case they want to withdraw and cancel their license on their own, they could claim the deposit money. He, however, stated that on completion of the 12 months waiting period, the security deposit money would be forfeited by DMC.
He further elaborated that the whole management system will be digital based and they be incorporating the online registration as a next phase of development, where each license would be given a unique QR code, which would be accessible by both the licensee and DMC.
He further appealed to all the trade license holders to come and renew their license.
