Mokokchung, Jan. 21 (EMN): Changtongya Volleyball Association (CVA) emerged as champion of 4th Nokdenlemba Open Volleyball Trophy after defeating MH-10, Kohima in a close-contested match at Multi-Sports Complex in Mokokchung on Jan. 20.
CVA, regarded as one of the top volleyball teams in Mokokchung started with a 1-2 deficit, losing the first and third set 25-27, 24-26. However, it overcame MH-10, Kohima in the fourth and the final set 24-19, 15-10 to clinch the title.
The champion walked away with a cash prize of INR 1 lakh along with trophy and certificate, while the runner-up received INR 60,000 with certificate. Two semi-final teams -- Kumlong Sporting Association 'A' and Longsa Sports Association -- also received INR 20000 each.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=6]Apongti Jamir, district education officer of Mokokchung, was the special guest, who advised the winner to excel further and encouraged the losing teams not to criticise others but work harder.
Meanwhile, Imliakum from CVA was declared the best spiker along with Sarilepzung (CVA) as the best setter. Temjensoba of Longsa Sports Association was declared the most promising player.
It may be mentioned that the trophy is organised once every three years by the Ao Student's Conference (AKM) in honour of the first president of AKM and Padmashree awardee, Late Nokdenlemba of Waromung village.
