DIMAPUR — A consultative meeting pertaining to the proposed closure of the satellite Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) centre in Yongnyah village under Longleng district was on October 17 in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office in Longleng town under the chairmanship of EAC Longleng, Dr. Samuel Akho Konyak.

A DIPR report stated that the project director of Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS), Dr. Abu Sekhose, and joint director (TI) of OST, Dr. Bernic, among others attended the meeting.

It stated that Dr. Senilo Magh, psychiatrist and medical officer of PHC Tuensang, made comprehensive presentation on OST and related subjects through informative powerpoint presentations. The topics covered included OST psychoactive substance, dependence syndrome, drug abuse management strategy, strategy for drug-related harms, opioid withdrawal, philosophy of agonist substance, treatment phases and the effectiveness of OST.

Dr. Banglau, medical officer of CHC Yongnyah, gave an overview of the current status of the OST center in Yongnyah village by shedding light on the operational aspects, while Dr. Tiasunep, chief medical officer (CMO) of Longleng, delivered the keynote address.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Chai-e Buchem, medical officer of CHC Tamlu.

Report stated that the consultative meeting was attended by various stakeholders, including representatives from Yongnyah village council, Tangha village council, Yongshei village council, Phom Students’ Conference, Phomla Hoichem as well as DBs and ward's representatives.
