DIPHU — Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma campaigned in support of BJP candidate Amarsing Tisso for the 3 Diphu Parliamentary Constituency on Sunday, covering three segments across both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.
The rallies were held at Hanjanglangso in Bokajan LAC, Tarabasa in Howraghat LAC, and Dongkamukam in Baithalangso LAC.
Attending the election rally at Tarabasa, the CM stated that there is strong support for Modi, highlighting various initiatives. He said that under the BJP government, Assam has seen a period of peace, marked by the signing of peace agreements with the Karbi, Bodo, Dimasa, and Adivasi communities, and noted that Assam is devoid of violence, with all communities and tribes coexisting peacefully.
Sarma remarked that Karbi Anglong is one of the fastest developing districts in Assam. In line with promises made during the 2022 Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) election, the CM announced the construction of a road from Dokmoka-Kothuri-Rongmongve to connect directly to Kaziranga, bypassing Nagaon or Chowkihola.
The state government has allocated INR 300 crores for this project, with tenders and land acquisition already completed. The road will traverse through hills, featuring tunnels along the route, as stated by the CM.
He mentioned that during Prime Minister Modi's visit to Loringthepi in 2022, he laid the foundation stone for an agriculture college, a law college, and a veterinary college. Now, the state government is preparing to establish a university in Karbi Anglong.
Expressing satisfaction with the HSLC results of Karbi Anglong, which were announced on April 20, the CM noted that this year the district has achieved a commendable increase in pass percentage compared to previous years and this positive trend reflects the improving educational environment in the district.
Regarding incentives for students, the CM stated that college admissions for both girls and boys from economically disadvantaged families will be covered by the state government. Additionally, girls will receive financial assistance for admissions up to the university level. Furthermore, the CM announced plans to create 50,000 jobs by the end of this year.
In response to questions from media persons regarding the eviction of settlers on PGR/VGR land in Kheroni West Karbi Anglong, the CM stated that there are challenges concerning PGR/VGR issues. The CM mentioned his intentions to visit Diphu after the election to engage in discussions with the people to resolve the matter. Additionally, the CM emphasised that new settlers should refrain from entering the area.
