MEZOMA — Thejapfütuo Chüsi, son of the late Cakietuo Chüsi, lifted the 49th Naga wrestling championship title, organised by Mezoma Youth Organisation (MYO), after overcoming former champion Keneiselie Khawakhrie in an intense final match on Friday.
The championship, including the second belt wrestling meet, managed by the Nyisenuomia Youth Organisation (NYO), was held at Phehinu local ground, Mezoma village.
On his path to the finals, Chüsi overcame veteran wrestler Vikehiekho Kehie in the pre-quarters and defeated Kikruvilie Khawakhrie in the semi-finals.
Kikruvilie Khawakhrie and Ruokuokehie Khawakhrie secured the third and fourth positions, respectively.
Chüsi won INR 20,000 while the runner-up received INR 15,000. The third and fourth position winners were awarded INR 10,000 each.
In the belt wrestling event (senior category under below 60kg), Kezhangukho Beiyiese and Mezhükolie Neiphi claimed the first and second positions, respectively.
In the below 70kg category, Ruokokehie Khawakhrie and Kikruvilie Khawakhrie secured first and second positions, respectively.
Thejapfütuo Chüsi and Keneiselie Khawakhrie were placed first and second, respectively, in the below 80kg category.
In the junior category (below 40kg), Neitholhoulie Kuotsu won the champion’s title and Thepfüneiko Vikhrie was placed second.
In below 50kg, Kedoneilhou Miasalhou and Kedoneilie Miasalhou claimed first and second spots, respectively.
In below 55kg, Vithoselie Beiyiese and Neilhoumetuo Neiphi stood first and second, respectively.
In the below 60kg category, Rokosievi Khatsü and Kevirüya Chüsi emerged champion and runner-up, respectively.
President of Angami Sports Association (ASA), Lhoubeizo Mere Kesiyie, and chairman of Mezoma Village Council, Visayieya Chüsi, presented the prizes to the winners.
