DIMAPUR — Assam Rifles celebrated Veterans Day across districts in Nagaland. The celebration took place in Kohima on March 23, where 80 veterans, including gallantry awardees, veer naris, widows, and their dependents, attended the event.

According to a press release, a medical camp was held on the occasion, and multiple stalls, including a grievance cell, were set up for the veterans with an aim of understanding their issues and addressing them.

A cultural event was also organised, showcasing Khukri dance, jazz band performances, and cultural songs.

The Deputy Inspector General of Assam Rifles attended the event as the chief guest and felicitated the veterans and veer naris.

A special event to honour and commemorate the brave veterans who served the country with valour and dedication was also held in Phek.

The event included veterans sharing their experiences and stories with active-duty soldiers. Through the event, veterans were honoured for their service and sacrifice. They were presented with tokens of gratitude as a symbol of admiration for their contributions.

A similar programme was organised at Kashiram Basti in Dimapur with ex-servicemen, veer bahadurs, veer naris, and veer matas. The interaction aimed to provide a healthy interactive session as well as address any problems they may have.

A significant number of issues were addressed and noted for follow-up actions with various institutions. All the veterans and veer naris were also provided with medical and dental assistance. A total of 106 individuals attended the event.

The paramilitary force commemorated Veterans Day and Assam Rifles Day with a Badakhana celebration in Kiphire district on March 24.

Among the guests were three veterans, three widows of fallen soldiers, and esteemed stakeholders from various sectors, including government officials, community leaders, and representatives from civil society organisations.

Medical camp at Khonoma

Assam Rifles, in collaboration with civil authorities, conducted a medical camp at Khonoma Village, Kohima, on March 22.

According to a press release, a total of 198 beneficiaries, including 91 males, 57 females, and 50 children, availed themselves of medical facilities/check-ups at the camp.

Security meeting at Chenloisho

On March 23, Assam Rifles conducted a security meeting-cum-awareness session with the village GBs and village council members of Chenloisho and surrounding villages at Chenloisho, Mon district of Nagaland.

Village GBs, village council chairmen, and village guards from nearby villages attended the meeting, which was conducted to discuss security-related issues.

Distributes stationery items

Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Satya Chitt Anand Foundation, distributed seven whiteboards and stationery items to Sister's Mission School in Wangti village, Mon.

The initiative aimed to help the school with infrastructure development, thereby promoting education and fostering a better future for the children of the school.

NSCN-K (YA) cadre apprehended

Acting on specific intelligence regarding the presence of a cadre in the general area of Merangkong, Nagaland, Assam Rifles launched a special operation on March 23 and apprehended one cadre of the NSCN-K (YA) group.

According to an update, the person was in possession of a single-barrel country-made gun. The apprehended person and the recovered weapon have been handed over to the police.
