AR averts tragedy in Nihoi

EMN Dimapur, November 24 The 18th Assam Rifles have apprehended 15 armed persons and confiscated a huge cache of arms and ammunition near Nihoi village in Peren district following what was informed to be indiscriminate firing in the area. Five .22 rifles, one .22 pistol, four 12 Bore guns and a large quantity of assorted ammunition were recovered from the gunmen, the 6th sector Assam Rifles informed in a communiqué on Monday. The security force informed that distress calls were received from Nihoi village, which is located near Jalukie in Peren, on November 21. “The villagers informed that some unidentified armed persons were firing indiscriminately at the Nihoi village. There was panic among persons of Nihoi village especially women and children,” the IGAR stated. “Troops of 18 AR immediately rushed to the site and apprehended 15 suspected armed persons who were firing from the outskirts of Nihoi village. The timely intervention by troops of Assam Rifles controlled the situation and averted a major tragedy which would have resulted in loss of precious lives,” the Assam Rifles stated. The civil administration and police were also incorporated immediately for restoration of peace and tranquility in the area. The apprehended suspected persons and the weapons and ammunitions were handed over to Jalukie police station, the note stated.
