KOHIMA — About 65 to 70% of the ongoing construction works at Kohima local ground (Khouchiezie) have been completed, with the entire project anticipated to be finished before June this year.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL), Kezha Theünuo, disclosed this to Eastern Mirror on Tuesday.
The CEO also informed that permission to host the upcoming two-day Angami Sports Association (ASA) Wrestling Meet 2024 at Khouchiezie, starting on February 15, has already been granted.
Theünuo said that the galleries for the three corners (blocks) are almost done and prior to the wrestling event, all four blocks (A, B, C and D) would be completed. He did, however, mention that the ground would be fully completed following the wrestling event and would most likely be finished before June.
As reported earlier by this newspaper, the Kohima local ground project (5.29 acres, approx.) was initiated with the objective of creating a planned multi-purpose ground-- mixed use development comprising a stadium, commercial space and parking, with an emphasis on the overall development of the identified area.
Earlier, the CEO also informed that the seating capacity of the gallery would be increased to 7,000 to 8,000 seats.
The city centre will house facilities such as a hotel, a commercial and sports complex and multi-level car parking (MLCP) spread across an area of 21,408.69 sq. m (5.29 acres, approx.).
He also disclosed that at least two buildings at the City Centre will be completed by May this year. However, the five-storey hotel at the City Centre will take time, he said.
Additionally, the CEO said that the work at the WW-II Tank site near Raj Bhavan, Kohima, is expected to be completed by March.
