DIMAPUR — In Nagaland in 2022, 46 people (4 male and 42 female) were reported missing, and 44 of them (3 male and 41 female) were successfully recovered or traced within the same year.
This was revealed in the recently released annual report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
Considering cases from previous years, the total number of missing individuals in 2022 reached 66, with 20 male and 46 female, of which 22 remained untraceable.
According to the NCRB report, a total of 4,42,572 people (1,49,008 male, 2,93,500 female, and 64 transgender) were reported missing in 2022 across the country, an increase of 13.5% from 3,89,844 people reported missing in 2021. In the same year, a total of 4,01,077 people (1,34,765 male, 2,66,250 female, and 62 transgender) were recovered or traced.
In Nagaland, 41 children under the age of 18 went missing (4 male and 37 female) in 2022, while 39 children (3 male and 36 female) were traced. In total, 45 children (6 male and 39 female) below the age of 18 were reported missing in 2022, considering data from previous years. Six children, comprising 3 male and 3 female, remained untraceable.
It has been reported that a total of 83,350 children (20,380 male, 62,946 female and 24 transgender) were reported missing in 2022, while the number of children missing has increased by 7.5% in 2022 from 77,535 children missing during 2021.
Across the nation, a total of 80,561 children (20,254 male, 60,281 female and 26 transgender) were recovered or traced during the year.
According to the Northeast state-wise distribution of missing persons in the year 2022, Assam topped the list with 4,373 missing people, followed by Tripura with 1,531 reported cases, Manipur with 275 missing people, Sikkim with 145 missing people, Arunachal Pradesh with 56 cases, Nagaland with 46 missing people, and Meghalaya with 28.
Mizoram had the lowest count, with just one reported missing person in 2022.
