Dimapur, Aug. 19 (EMN): In view of the move to solve the issue of parallel Zeliang People’s Organisations (ZPOs) within the Zeliang community, the ZPO (N) convened an emergency meeting of its executive council at the residence of its president Kezen Zeliang in Jalukie town on Monday and adopted a few resolutions, informed a statement signed by the  president and secretary of the organisation.

According to the statement, the ZPO (N) informed that it has resolved to abide by the decision of the Zeliang people at the Zeliang People’s Convention to be held on September 6, stating that it welcomed the proposal for “unification of the parallel ZPO within the Zeliang community”. It added that it would “attend to the clarion calls for it, if done with the sole and genuine intention of unity among us, without any prejudice or mala fides intention.”

The organisation further expressed its “resentment and condemnation” over the “arbitrary and authoritative constitution of interim body” which was facilitated during a consultative meeting of two ZPOs at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur on August 13. While appreciating the initiative taken by Namri Nchang, MLA and Advisor of Water Resources to the government of Nagaland, under whose chairmanship the meeting was convened, it claimed that “the popular wishes expressed by the members present” were not taken into consideration “leaving rooms for doubts”. It added that “no individual has a legitimacy to undermine or sideline the popular decision taken by the two most important pillars and a legitimate constituent body of ZPO (N), the Zeme council and Liangmai council, along with Zeliang Welfare Society Nagaland, on August 9, 2019.”

The ZPO (N) stated the ‘declaration’ signed on August 13 was “unacceptable” and declared it as null and void.
