Dimapur, Jan. 26 (EMN): The second convention of the Zeliangrong Catholic Association of Nagaland (ZCAN) was held at the Assumption Church, Samziuram, from January 24 to the 26th with the theme ‘Unity in Christ.’ The convention coincided with the golden jubilee celebration of the Assumption Church of Samziuram.

The jubilee celebration and inauguration of the convention began with the blessing and unveiling of a monolith by the bishop of Kohima diocese Rev. Dr. James Thoppil.

The bishop offered the Holy mass on January 24 in the presence of priests, sisters, pioneering leaders, ZCAN officials, delegates, well-wishers and the faithful, an update from the Kohima diocese stated on Sunday.

In his homily, the bishop called upon the gathering to be more firm in their faith. He also encouraged the community of Assumption Church to strengthen their commitment as Christians. He further highlighted on the importance of coming together as community by means of organising conventions.

He also encouraged the gathering to come forward in sincerity to bring change in the society. To this, he said that personal efforts for change need to change from within. He stated that jubilee is a time for reparation, forgiveness and to revive the newness in life.

Thought provoking speeches were delivered by Johnny Raungmai, OSD, NSDMS; Rev. Fr. Peter Peihausuiding, MSFS; and Rev. Sr. Abiliu Rose, MSMHC. All the speakers stressed on coming together in unity in Christ.

A special business session was held on January 26 in which the Zeliangrong community were asked to remain steadfast in their faith. New office bearers for the term 2020 to 2022 were elected.

Competitions on cultural dance, folk song and Bible quiz were organised for the youth, women and men folk respectively.
