Kohima, Jan. 30 (EMN): Zayevoto Kiso of Sakhabama village defeated Thejasevo Mejura of Phesama village in the final to lift the Under-16 wrestling competition organised by Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA) at Khuochiezie local ground in Kohima, on Thursday.

Kiso (14 years old), who weighs 64 kg and measures 5.5 feet, walked away with a trophy and a cash prize of INR 20,000 while runner-up Mejura (15 years, weighs 55 kg and 5.7 feet tall) received INR 15,000 and a trophy.

Atou Rülu of Mima village and Sweyiesal Kotso of Kidima village stood in the third and fourth positions received INR 8,000 and INR 5,000 respectively, along with trophies.

The tournament was organised as part of the 58th SASA Wrestling Meet.

Altogether, 35 wrestlers from the Southern Angami Region representing Viswema, Kidima, Jakhama, Kezoma, Kigwema, Sakhabama, Pfüchama, Mima and Phesama villages took part in the tournament.

The two-day SASA wrestling event kicked off with senior wrestling category on Wednesday and concluded with the junior category on Thursday.

The four quarterfinalists in the senior division were also awarded with INR 3,000 each while the other four junior players, who were eliminated in the quarterfinal round, were awarded INR 2,000 each.

The “best tactic ” award of INR 5,000 each was won by Atuo Tevo of Kidima village (senior category) and Atou Rülu of Mima village (junior category).

Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, managing director of Kohima Hospital, attended the wrestling meet as the guest of honour and gave away the prizes.

Meanwhile, a new team of SASA office bearers led by president Rokovizo Meze for the tenure 2020-2022 were also nominated during the occasion.

Meze, on behalf of the new executives, assured to give “best service” to the association and to carry forward its activities with sincerity.

15 senior and 10 junior wrestlers were selected to represent SASA at the upcoming ASA Wrestling Meet scheduled to take place from February 12th to the 13th.
