Dimapur, Sep. 15 (EMN): The Wokha district youth parliament debate and quiz competition was held on September 14 at the Don Bosco higher secondary school in Wokha. The event was conducted to educate the students about the importance of acquainting themselves with proceedings of the legislative assembly, updates stated.
The parliamentary debate was based on the topic ‘lack of governance is responsible for slow growth and development in Nagaland,’ a press release from the organisers stated.
The speakers of the motion defended that the government was ‘taking into account every problem’ that is affecting the slow growth of development in Nagaland. The ‘ruling government’ stated that the Naga people point at the government but do not think about the factors that affect slow growth and development in the state, the press release explained.

‘Misuse of government schemes, lack of people’s participation, ignorance about government schemes, and being in full dependence on the government are the major reasons contributing to the slow growth and development in Nagaland,’ the ruling party of the forum stated.

Speakers from the opposition bench however disagreed. They stated that the government was less concerned about the slow growth and development of the state.

“Despite various hardships faced by the people the government has turned deaf ears,” the opposition stated.
‘The opposition bench pointed out that Nagaland is governed by irresponsible representatives with transparency at the bottom. Citing examples of neighbouring states like Manipur and Meghalaya the opposition bench strongly criticized that lack of effective governance in Nagaland. Education, agriculture, infrastructure, political corruption, power supply, and industries are the main areas that need addressing,’ the opposition bench countered the government bench.

The debate competition was followed by a quiz competition, the updates stated. Questions based on the freedom struggle and those about the enactment of the Indian Constitution were asked during the event, the organisers stated.

Three institutions participated in the competition. Thungchobeni Ezung won the first prize in the debate competition, Wonchibeni Humtsoe the second position, and Thungchobeni Ezung the third position.

In the quiz competition, the first position went to Longshilo K Patton and Ralanthung Khuvung followed by Mhathung Humtsoe and Kimeri in the second Position. Thungchibemo Lotha and Thungyani Ezung took the third position, the updates stated.
