Women in Longleng sensitised on their rights

Dimapur, May 14 (EMN): In a bid to raise awareness on women empowerment, the Sakhi- One Stop Centre, Longleng, conducted an awareness programme for women at Longleng Town Baptist Church (LTBC) and in the office of Phomla Hoichem, apex women organisation of Phom community, on May 9 and 13 respectively.
The programme was conducted as part of the Information, Education & Communication (IEC) curriculum of the centre. The main purpose was to disseminate information on women centric issues and rights.

Addressing the gathering, C Henchem Phom, centre administrator, made a brief introduction on the functioning of Sakhi- One Stop Centre, various services available and how to avail them. She also highlighted on the importance of women Helpline 181 to assist aggrieved women.

P Phungla Phom, WWO, MSK, highlighted on various schemes and supports provided for the women and girl child. She also emphasised on the BBBP, SSA and PMMVY.

Counsellor Nyangyungsangla Phom spoke on various legal rights and acts such as Domestic Violence Act 2005, POCSO 2012, Juvenile Justice Care & Protection Act 2000.

Other highlights of the programme included introductory speech by Shamthai Phom, president of Phomla Hoichem; interactive sessions and suggestive measures to successfully implement the scheme in Longleng.
Host of women leaders and elders from the district attended the programme.
