Dimapur, Aug. 21 (EMN):
The District Planning and Development Board of Wokha (DPDB) has decided to adopt four villages in the district for a period of two years. The villages are one from each assembly constituency that Wokha district has.

The government publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), issued updates on Wednesday informing about the decision of the development board.

Apprising the board’s members about the village adoption policy, the chairman of the board Mhathung Yanthan said that the adoption process will be for a specific period. He said that the initiative will be undertaken on a mission mode to address the problems and issues being faced by the villagers.

After the completion of the specified period, other villages will be adopted in phases, the IPR stated.

Yanthan, who is the advisor for Horticulture & Border Affairs, requested the department to extend cooperation for successful implementation of the policy. He was stated to have urged the government departments to create ideas and plans to bring about change and development in the targeted villages.

Such a move can be replicated in other villages as well, the board members were told.

In this regard, a committee was constituted by the development board. The committee is led by additional deputy commissioner for headquarters. The following departments are members of the group: district welfare officer, district forest officer, district horticulture officer; district rural development agency; Land Resources, Roads and Bridges; district education officer; Water Resources; chief medical officer; chief veterinary officer, and the district agriculture officer.

The chairman directed the committee to have a meeting at the earliest to work out modalities, selection of villages and to discuss how the adoption plan is to be carried out. Yanthan requested the committee to present the report in the next meeting of the board, the IPR stated.

The board also decided to invite a motivational speaker whom the IPR identified only as Rev. Imsong, to the meeting in September to have interactions with the board’s members.

Further, the board referred to a guideline of the state planning board’s manual where it is mentioned that the administrative and department heads should attend at least two DPDB meetings in a current year.

In this regard, the board decided to invite the director of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry and registrar ARCS in September to the DPDB meeting.

Also, the board approved in principle the local area development program 2019-20 schemes.

In other matters, the board has approved the registration of a group called ‘Hope Spring Society.’

In regard to opening a weekly market by a group called ‘Renchen Welfare Society’ in Wokha, the chairman suggested that the society coordinate with the assistant deputy commissioner for headquarters and the administrator of the Wokha Town Council to look into the matter for follow up action, the IPR stated.

On the agenda of new construction works on the Doyang Bridge the board opined that as the road was officially handed over by the Nagaland government to the National Highway & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) on the 13th of July in 2017 the board urged the corporation to take up the case on priority basis.

The IPR stated that the board has asked the corporation to expedite the work at the earliest since the said road is the economic lifeline of Wokha and neighbouring districts.

The departments of Sericulture, Industries and the IFAD gave reports of their departmental programmes, policies and activities during the board meeting, the IPR stated.

Further, the board has decided to inspect selected establishments and offices after every meeting of the board, the updates stated. This exercise is to motivate various government establishments and their employees to ‘bring positive changes and to encourage the employees to work with enthusiasm,’ the IPR reported.

Accompanied by heads of offices in the district, Yanthan visited the district hospital, Wokha government higher secondary school, and the district library. He had interactions with the heads of the departments and faculty members, the updates informed.
