Dimapur, Sep. 17 (EMN): The Wokha administration has approved in principle several villages that are to be ‘adopted.’ The administration has named a village each from the four constituencies of Wokha district.

The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) gave updates on Tuesday informing about a meeting of the board during which the administration gave its approval.

The monthly meeting of the District Planning and Development Board of Wokha was conducted on September 17 in the deputy commissioner’s office in Wokha. The advisor for Horticulture & Border Affairs, Mhathung Yanthan, and member of legislative assembly Dr. Chumben Murry was in the meeting too.

Reviewing the matter of adopting a village each from the four constituencies in Wokha district, the convener for selection of the villages additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Mhathung Tsanglao read out the names of villages. They are Nungying in the 37th assembly constituency; Wokha village in the 38th assembly constituency; Aree, old, in the 39th assembly constituency, and Liphanyan in the 40th assembly constituency.

The board accepted the list in principle, the IPR stated. The ADC informed the board that the committee would be visiting the selected villages to ‘prepare modalities, strategies and action plans,’ the updates stated.

In this regard, the departments of DRDA, Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, District Education Officer, department of Forest, R&B for Wokha and Baghty division, and the department of PHE presented their action plans to the board for implementation in the four adopted villages.

Yanthan, also the chairman of the board, said that a ‘coordinated approach’ was required for the success of this adoption plan. All the line departments are urged to pool resources, to converge schemes and programmes, or incorporate them and to organise activities to improve the quality of life to bring transformation in the adopted villages, he said.

The chairman requested also the other departments to work on clear objectives and action plans to be presented in the next meeting. He was stated to have urged the line departments not to go only ‘for funding patterns’ but also to impart capacity building and technical knowledge to adopt measures against Climate Change for mass production activities in the agriculture and allied sectors for alleviation of rural livelihood, the IPR stated.

On the matter of construction of the Lotha Middle Range Students’ Union’s office building in Sanis town, the chairman directed the department Housing/CAWD to prepare a technical estimate for deliberation in the next meeting.

The board also approved projects for 2019-20 in the four assembly constituencies of Wokha. The board approved also the creation of an executive engineer for Public Works department (Roads and Brides) post at Bhandari sub-division for recommendation, the IPR stated.

On the matter about the establishment of a sub-treasury office at Sanis, the board recommended redeploying staff of the Baghty branch attached to the Treasury office to be deployed to the ADC headquarters in Sanis.

The departments of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, and Cooperation-ARCS and the DEO gave reports during the meeting, the IPR stated.

Later in the day, Yanthan, accompanied by Dr. Chumben Murry and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon and board members visited ongoing developmental projects such as the DC’s official residential building, and the district court building, besides inspecting the circuit house infrastructure, it was informed.
