Dimapur, Sep. 19 (EMN): Citing that there has been no revision of market prices of essential commodities in Dimapur since 2012, the Public Action Committee (PAC) under Naga Council Dimapur has appealed to the district administration to notify who the rightful authority is to control/regulate market prices.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the committee informed that it had a ‘discussion’ with officials from Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and the department of Food and Civil Supplies.

In the course of discussion, it stated, it came to light that market prices in Dimapur are controlled and regulated by the DMC, Food and Civil Supplies, and the district administration in coordination with Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

According to the committee, this leads to fluctuation of prices in the market. “This scenario also provides a good haven to the syndicate, leases and other agencies to encroach and inflate the market prices as per their conveniences,” it asserted.

Also, the PAC reaffirmed its earlier decision on collection of royalty by the departments of Forest and Geology and Mining. The committee will not allow collection(s) of royalty by these departments until the government gives a clear decision and announce the outcome to the public, it stated.

“Therefore, deputy commissioner of Dimapur is requested to take immediate action on the representation submitted by the PAC in this regard. The PAC also urges the Dimapur Municipal Council to immediately display charts of all commodities in all the designated toll booths. At the same time, collections of toll tax at any undesignated toll booth/points should be immediately withdrawn or stopped immediately,” read the statement.

Also citing the accounts of transporters, the PAC stated that the price of Deopaani sand has been reduced to INR 4000 per truckload. At the same time, prices of other essential commodities have also come down due to the prevention of illegal taxation for the past four days, it stated.
