Assam and Mizoram qualify for the national round, with Assam topping the table following the Under-13 ASMITA Zonal Football League 2025–26 (East Zone) in Chümoukedima.

DIMAPUR — The Under-13 ASMITA Zonal Football League 2025–26 (East Zone) concluded at the Chümoukedima Football Stadium on Tuesday, with Mizoram registering a 6–0 victory over Nagaland in the final match of the league.
Earlier in the day, Assam defeated Sikkim 10–0.
At the end of the league stage, Assam topped the points table with 12 points, followed by Mizoram with seven points. Both teams have qualified for the national round. Tripura finished third with five points, Nagaland placed fourth with four points, while Sikkim ended the league at the bottom without a point.
The tournament was organised under the ASMITA and Khelo India initiatives, the East Zone league was held from February 5 to the 10th, featuring teams from Sikkim, Assam, Mizoram, Tripura, and Nagaland. The tournament followed a single-leg league format and was hosted by the Nagaland Football Association (NFA).

This marked the fourth edition of the ASMITA Zonal Football League and the first time Nagaland participated in the tournament.
Speaking as the special guest at the closing ceremony, Secretary of Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland, Anthony Ngullie, said that ASMITA stands for “Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action.”
He noted that this was the first Under-13 girls’ football tournament in Nagaland held under the aegis of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Khelo India, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the All India Football Federation (AIFF), and the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Nagaland.
Ngullie expressed gratitude to the participating teams from the Northeast, stating that the tournament provided young players a platform to showcase their talent, grit, and footballing abilities at the grassroots level.
He added that the event marked the beginning of a long journey towards the development of girls’ football in the state and described the Chümoukedima Football Stadium as one of Nagaland’s most prominent venues, having hosted several major state and national tournaments.
He said it was encouraging to see the stadium filled with young players, making the occasion both pleasurable and inspiring.
