Training centre for sericulture farmers inaugurated

Dimapur, Jan. 23 (EMN): Sericulture, Excise and Minority Affairs advisor Zhaleo Rio inaugurated the State Sericulture Farmers Training Centre on January 23 at Dhansiripar in Dimapur. The training center will be imparting training in plantation maintenance, nursery production and techniques, and designing and product diversification, among others. 

The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) gave updates on Thursday informing about the inauguration.

Addressing the gathering, Rio termed the day a red letter day particularly for silkworm farmers as training institutes impart the right knowledge to farmers and make them aware about different ways of rearing silkworms.

With the inception of the training center at Dhansiripar, Rio said, residents of Dhansiripar are fortunate. He reminded the farmers to use the funds and infrastructure provided by the government in a judiciously.

Urging the farmers to engage sericulture as a family industry, the advisor informed that the training center would be focusing on plantation maintenance, nursery production and techniques, silkworm rearing and management techniques, silk spinning and technology, silk designing and product diversification, among others. The advisor asked the sericulture officials to draw up a calendar of activities too, the updates stated.

To the silkworm farmers, Rio urged them to continue to work hard. He asked the beneficiaries in Dhansiripar to inform him if they do not get their entitlements. Saying that the main objective of the Sericulture department is to uplift the economy of the poor, the underprivileged and targeted beneficiaries, Rio assured posting a Sericulture officer to them.

A government servant, the secretary for Sericulture and Excise, Orenpomo Kikon, also advised the village council of Dhansiripar to be cautious so that no encroachment takes place in the farm.

Delivering the keynote address, director for Sericulture Chubameren lauded the farmers of Dhansiripar, describing them as ‘most committed and dedicated.’ He urged them to continue working in the same spirit. He observed that the training center has the scope to be upgraded to a centre for certificate courses in the future.

A technical report said the new facility comprises an administrative block, a practical room, a dormitory, a kitchen, rearing house, a guest house and a faculty room. It was constructed at the cost of “4 crore 24 lakhs,” the IPR stated.
