Excess of vehicles in Kohima town has become a problem for citizens of Kohima town, as well as travellers and commuters from near and distant places. Many concerned individuals have ardently been addressing this issue in local newspapers but so far no progressive approach is being made to check the menace of traffic congestion.
Traffic Police Department on their part is continually working to ease the movement of Public transport and vehicles by employing new tactics on a strategic basis for the welfare of the community. As members of the community, it is our duty to accept and follow the guidelines laid down by the Government. The Government must also ensure that personnels of traffic department are given greater authority to regulate the movement of vehicles, as guides of men by preventing vehicles from harassing pedestrians, this a great source of blessing for the department and the personnels involved. Therefore, the public must also acknowledge and respect the service of the traffic personnels. On daily basis vehicles plying on the road is at the most occupied by one or two persons. It is also common for people to use their personal cars for conducting their everyday affairs. The factor responsible for persistent traffic congestion is centred towards the vicinities of business sectors.

It has been observed that majority of the vehicles parked by the roadside throughout the day belongs to the shopkeepers, business merchants and business proprietors. Although the Public travellers and shoppers park their vehicles by the roadside it is temporal because once their work is done they drive away. Persons commuting to school, college, institutions, officers, hospitals and so on through the means of public transport is force to tackle the strain of unrelieved traffic congestion. After much deliberation on the current situation and its adverse impact on the civilians at large it would be good if the District Administration Department introduces new regulations for the shopkeepers, business merchants and business proprietors with regard to parking of personal vehicles by the roadside. Because, as said Public roads are public properties not private properties.

Business oriented people might resent this proposition but trade and Commerce wish and caters to the Public demands, and without Public consumption, there can be no profit. In this collective effort for greater good of the society to enable the District Administration to maintain law and discipline, as well as to facilitate the growth and development of business enterprises in Kohima town, may I request all concerned individuals to ponder upon this proposition without any reservations.
