Tokhu Emong sees a call to using district’s resources 

Dimapur, Nov. 6 (EMN): The second day of the Tokhu Emong Mini Hornbill festival witnessed folk music and indigenous games at the local ground in Wokha where the festivities are, on November 6.

The advisor for IT, Science and Technology, New & Renewable Energy, Mmhonlumo Kikon, who was the event’s special guest. Addressing during the function, Kikon said that in spite of the district having been blessed with rich resources the district is unable to make use of the abundance given by God because of which ‘we have so many unemployed educated youth among the Lotha community.’

‘It is time for us to study the impact which is hampering our society to move forward,’ he said, urging all right thinking individuals and intellectuals to dialogue to bring about a workable solution that would bring prosperity and development.

The government will soon be organizing an event called ‘Amur falcon conservation week’ statring from November 8, the gathering was informed. Through this conservation event, many initiatives in the form of infrastructure development will be brought with the intention to promote tourism industry in the state. He said that the public must cooperate and collaborate with the government for successful implementation of development programmes and policies.

The advisor added that the people need to work hard to bring about change. He appealed to the gathering to propose any policy relevant to the needs of the population to the government as it has been elected to work for the welfare of the community.

As the tribe celebrates the festival, the governor of Nagaland PB Acharya has greeted the Lotha people. The festival is associated with harvesting and celebration of brotherhood, forgiveness and oneness, a message from the governor’s office stated on Nov. 6.

The message reminded the community to take time and thank the Almighty for his unwavering love and blessing. He also mentioned central and state governments having welfare projects for farmers such as soil testing, Kisan credit card, National Food Security Mission etc to help in production and productivity,’ the message stated.

‘May the festival of Tokhu Emong bring peace, unity and prosperity to the Lothas in particular and Nagas in general.’ the governor added in the message.
