DIMAPUR — Tikhir Union Kohima (TUK) celebrated Tsonglak Nyi on Tuesday at Bamboo Hall, Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, with Special Transport Officer, Alembin as the special guest.
According to a DIPR report, Alembin stated on the occasion that the uniqueness of the Nagas is always defined and recognised by different festivals, cultures, and languages spoken, and added that the most important aspect of Naga festivals is to strengthen relationships and friendships with neighbouring villages, as well as to forgive and forget.
In his speech, James Khulu Tikhir, Under Secretary, Home department, stated that Tsonglak Nyi is one of the most important Tikhir festivals.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]Tsonglak Nyi is observed for four days each year, from October 9 to 12. Tsonglak Nyi is made up of two words: Tsong, which means shield, and Lak, which means sanctification. Tsonglak nyi is essentially a festival of the sanctification of sheild. It also implies the sanctification of weapons and the purification of menfolk before going hunting.
A short speech was also delivered on the occasion by Kiusumong Tikhir, OSD to the Chief Minister, while TUK president T Tsuthong delivered the welcome address.
