Three arrested for social media abuse in Mokokchung

Mokokchung, Aug. 24 (EMN): Three persons were arrested by Mokokchung Police in connection with social media abuse on August 23.

According to the PRO of Mokokchung Police, the arrests were made in connection to a video clip, that went viral on social media platforms, showing a juvenile girl in semi-nude state. He added that the victim was staying with her uncle’s family in one of the wards of Mokokchung district.

The PRO said that the video clip was recorded by one of the victim’s neighbours, at the direction of her aunt (uncle’s wife). The video clip was recorded on August 20, and the victim’s aunt was the one who had forcefully taken off the victim’s clothes after assaulting her with ‘stick and scissor’, it was informed.

According to the PRO, the arrested persons have been identified as Eyemchoaya Konyak (26); Imtichiba Chang (29); and Naonglemla (22).

Several organisations, including Nagaland Alliance for Children & Women Right Mokokchung Chapter; Family Counseling Centre, Care & Support Society; Maksha Citizen Union; Maksha Union Tuensang Town; and Maksha Village, Tuensang have filed FIRs in this connection.

The case has been registered at Women Police Station, Mokokchung under relevant IPC sections & IT Act 2000. The accused persons are currently under judicial custody and further investigation is on, police sources said.

Dr. T Amongla, the chairperson of Child Welfare Committee, informed that the victim has been handed over to her parents, in the presence of police officials; Chang Women Organisation, Mokokchung; and Maksha Union Tuensang Town.
