Dimapur, Sep. 13 (EMN): Thanamir Village Council organised the 8th Thanamir Apple festival in collaboration with the department of Horticulture at the public ground of the village on September 13. Advisor for Horticulture and Border Affairs, Mhathung Yanthan was the special guest of the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Yanthan said Thanamir was created by God in a special way with wonderful people and blessed with rich natural resources, informed an update from DIPR. He advised the people of the village and nearby villages to increase apple production through proper management.

Yanthan encouraged the villagers “to get involved in promoting agriculture which can be good for economic growth as well as for health benefits.” He also assured the people that his department would assist in getting right apple species for the cultivators in order to produce more.

Toshi Wangtung, advisor IPR, SCERT & village guard, stressed on conserving forests, stating that it “must be conserved in a larger way because cutting down of trees will lead to climatic change which will have negative impact on the cultivation of apples as well as for human survival in different ways.”
