Dimapur, Feb. 10 (EMN): A Sumi organisation has declared that the Citizenship Bill poses a danger to the indigenous people of Nagaland and has sought scrapping it ‘before it is too late for the sake of our indigenous people.’ A community group, the Sumi Aphuyemi Hoho, issued a press release on Saturday.
The press release read: “The Sumi Aphuyemi Hoho held its executive meeting on 9th February 2019 at Pughoboto and unanimously decided to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016. The house stated that if the Bill once become an Act it will pose a great danger to the indigenous people of Nagaland. It appeals to government of Nagaland to urge government of India to scrape the bill before it is too late for the sake of our indigenous people.”

The organisation also welcomed the step to be taken by the government of Nagaland to propose “adoption of resolution to oppose the Bill” in the budget session, on February 21 “which is a positive and welcome step on the part of the state government.”

In other issues, the organisation expressed concern at the “spanning of the Naga Issue for long.” For the sake of peace, it stated, “Nagas have shown enough patience.” The statement carried an appeal to the government of India to “solve the Naga issue before the coming parliamentary general election.”
Further, the community organisation stated a decision to ‘protect and preserve our natural environment and soil from contamination.’
