Students asked to stay away from drug and alcohol

Dimapur, Aug. 19 (EMN)
: With an aim to sensitise the young minds on the ill-effects of substance abuse, the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), Prodigals’ Home, Dimapur conducted an awareness programme on “Drug and alcohol abuse” at Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, on August 16.

Apong Jamir, coordinator of IRCA, and T Meren Jamir, counsellor of IRCA, were the resource persons of the event, informed an update from Prodigals’ Home.

The students were made aware of the prevailing drug and alcohol abuse in the society, especially among the student community and how addiction creates havoc within the family and society. The participants were also informed on how substance abuse can ruin one’s life, career and family relationship besides fatal consequences.

The resource persons urged the students to lead a sober and productive life by living a healthy lifestyle; not to be swayed by societal and peer pressures but aspire to contribute towards their communities.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and prayer by the school chaplain, Jolly.
