Dimapur, Jan. 19 (EMN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has stated that the “views of the stakeholders must reign supreme” with regard to Naga political issue.

The NPCC informed through a press release on Sunday that its extended executive committee passed two crucial resolutions on Naga political issue and CAA and NRC at its meeting on January 17 at Congress Bhavan, Kohima.

The house noted that after nearly 23 years of negotiations, the Naga political dialogue ended on October 31 last year after several consultative meetings with stakeholders like Tribe Hohos, Nagaland GB Federation and different civil societies.

“Therefore, it (house) resolved to express our appreciations as all negotiating groups were taken onboard in the concluded negotiations while reiterating that in democracy, the views of the stakeholders must reign supreme,” read the press release.

“The house further decided that since the issue of Integration has been categorically ruled out by GoI, we stand by Article 371A of the Indian Constitution and that no act of Indian Parliament should make Article 371A redundant,” it added.

The statement went on to say that the house had resolved to urge the government of India to “implement political solution under non-partisan government in Nagaland as it has also been the commitment of all legislators cutting across party lines and declared policy of regional political parties, to pave the way for final political solution”.

On the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019, the house reiterated its stand against the Act in its present form, stating that “exempting Nagaland on the basis of ILP is nothing but a ploy to fool our people”. It said the influx of illegal immigrants has already changed the demography of the north-eastern states.

Claiming that ‘CAA is to legitimise those left out of NRC in Assam’ besides making religion as the basis of nationhood, it said CAA and NRC will affect the secular fabric of the constitution.

The house has resolved to urge both the ruling PDA government and opposition NPF to immediately pass a resolution in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly urging the Central government to withdraw the Act.
