Footnote, a social media channel for Naga musicians was officially launched by Theja Meru, Advisor to Music Task Force, and the director MTF Hovithal Sothu, at D’café, Kohima on Sunday.

Meruin his speech said the way forward for Naga artistes and musicians is to embrace the changes with the times and utilise social media to promote their talents.

Citing the example of successful international artistes from Japan and Korea, he said Nagas are second to none when it comes to talent.

“We can be the smaller than small but we can achieve big if we work hard. Working hard is not the secret of success but working hard and smart is the answer,” said Meru.

Morotsung Longchar, founder of Footnote channel said it was a project to promote young fresh and up and coming artistes; and showcase their talent.

“We will provide artistes and musicians with free audio and video recording and will feature them in our channel and help them gain an audience; and with a concept to make music an industry here in Nagaland wherein musicians and artistes can sustain their livelihood through music,” he said.

He also said that the bigger goal was to make music an industry in Nagaland wherein musicians and artistes can sustain their livelihood through music.

“We want to promote professionalism among musicians, we want to encourage a culture wherein musicians start writing and recording their own original work. You know it’s all a chain reaction. Once that culture starts people like us, those in the video production industry, those in the sound recording industry, those in the business of selling musical instruments ,and so on and so forth will all start earning. If the music industry grows it can and will definitely sustain a lot of lives and maybe lessen the massive unemployment problem that is staring at today’s generation”, he also said.

Longchar also opined that, given the right training and guidance, Naga musicians and artistes have it in them to make it big and make a career out of their talents with proper infrastructure, right spirit and discipline.

He also asked the gathering to support the channel as it belongs to the people of Nagaland.
