Dimapur, Dec. 27 (EMN): Nagaland has been swept with a cold winter wave, with reports of snowfall in Kiphire, Tuensang, Pfutsero and Zunheboto, bringing down the temperature drastically in the last 24 hours.

Residents of Luvishe village, under Aghunato subdivision in Zunheboto district, in particular, woke up to snowfall and frost covering the roads and fields on December 27.

The Gaonbura (GB) of the village, Kuhozhe N Achumi informed Eastern Mirror that this year, the village has seen the ‘worst case of frost and snowfall’ compared to previous years. “This year was much more than previous years; sometimes even after a gap of two to three years the frost doesn’t form,” Achumi said.

One major issue that the GB cited was the damage of winter crops that occurs when there is continuous rain and frost.

“Since this year the weather condition is the worst, winter crops have been damaged which has affected the villagers,” said Achumi adding that the intervention of the department concerned “is the need of the hour”.

“Concerned officials (sic) are also never in station (in order) to inform them our grievances,” shared Achumi adding that the villagers suffer almost every year during winter due to this reason.
