Imphal, Nov. 5 (EMN): Five police personnel and a civilian were injured, after a bomb, suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED), exploded in Imphal on Tuesday morning.

According to Imphal police, the explosion took place in front of a grocery shop located between Thangal bazaar and Khoyathong junction in Imphal at around 9.20 am.

Some of the vehicles, including two-wheelers parked near the explosion site, were damaged. Windows of nearby buildings were also damaged during the explosion.

The injured police personnel were evacuated to a nearby private hospital for necessary treatment. The victims sustained injury on their limbs, chest and belly, and are stated to be in a stable condition, according to hospital authorities.

Sources informed that the injured personnel were on their routine duty.

The sound of the explosion was also heard by residents in and around the Manipur state capital.

Meanwhile, the chief minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh accompanied by senior state police officers, visited the explosion site and condemned the incident.

The director general of Manipur police, LM Khaute and senior police officers also accompanied the chief minister to visit the victims at the hospital.

The police, who have started investigating the incident, conducted a search operation in Thangal bazaar area in the afternoon wherein some people were picked up for further probing.

A similar blast took place at Telipati area under Poromopat police station in Imphal East district on the night of November 2 wherein three BSF personnel were injured.

Meanwhile, the Manipur police department has announced a cash reward for any individual who can provide information leading to the identification and arrest of the culprit(s) involved in the two bombs explosions, according to a press note. “The identity of the informant will be kept a secret,” it assured.
