Senapati students threaten to launch agitation

Imphal, Aug. 12 (EMN): The Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) has threatened to launch a democratic form of agitation if the government fails to fulfil their demand in upgrading the existing Senapati Government Aided Junior High School into a full-fledged government high school.

Speaking to the reporters at Senapati district headquarters, 60 km north of Imphal on Monday, SDSA President Kaikho Hopeson Mao said that the association had submitted a memorandum to the state Chief Minister N Biren Singh during the last cabinet meeting held in Senapati town.

He also said that they have met Education minister but no concrete step has been taken up in connection to the up gradation of the school.

Senapati is the only district that does not have a full-fledged government high school in district headquarters.

Stating that there are about 38 revenue villages in the district headquarters and majority of the families are under below poverty line, SDSA Vice President James Hau said that taking into consideration the position of the villagers, it is a must to have a full fledged high school in the district.

General Secretary Pung Mark said that the government paid a deaf ear to their genuine demand though the matter was raised earlier. However, he added that the association is expecting positive development in the upcoming state assembly which is scheduled to begin from August 26.is optimistic that

Mention may be made that the School Managing Board in their last meeting decided to upgrade the school upto class IX.

Earlier, Senapati village headman and chairman had donated land measuring about 1,42,266 sq feet for the up-gradation of the school into a full-fledged government high school, but no developmental projects is initiated so far, the SDSA alleged.
