Eastern Mirror: A short introduction for those who haven’t heard of you yet.

Hiyalo Kath: My name is Hiyalo Kath, I’m from Tseminyu town. I am a self-taught musician, a

Teacher by profession and a music director of my local church..

Eastern Mirror: When did you realise that music was something you wanted to focus on for life?

Hiyalo Kath: As far as I recall, music has always been there from the beginning. Actually..I started as a guitarist but with time…developed more interest in song-writing…and it has become an integral part of my life.

Eastern Mirror: What is your song ‘When Will We Ever Learn’ all about?

Hiyalo Kath: The song ‘when will we ever learn’ is about Society drowning in corruption…Christians in confusion..and broken families…It is mainly focussed on society taking a wrong turn.

Eastern Mirror: Can you recall the first lyrics you ever tried to pen-down? And please share your writing process.

Hiyalo Kath: I tried to write a song for a farewell party while I was in the 12th standard, and even performed it…though it was an embarrassing one (smiles),however, it did inspire me to continue with my passion.

I have my own style of writing since I’m not trained in this area…Usually, I write when an idea or a concept strikes me but sometimes I look for inspiration too…Firstly, the main theme is penned, composed and arranged(rhyming words) and the rest comes later on…

Eastern Mirror: Who are you inspired by?

Hiyalo Kath: Well, I like the way Dream theatre write songs…it’s just makes you wanna be them..

Eastern Mirror: If given a chance to perform with an artist, who would you choose and why?

Hiyalo Kath: Divine connection…of course…it’s my genre of choice and they are the best and most creative musicians in Nagaland.

Eastern Mirror: What is your favourite part about being a musician?

Hiyalo Kath: Song writing for sure…I don’t really fancy performing and being on stage much….I prefer to sit back and weave lines

Eastern Mirror: Favourite quote.

Hiyalo Kath: Believe in the power of your dreams
