Ascot may have been formed only recently but after winning the Guwahati Royal Global University’s ‘Battle of Bands’, a rock music contest, they are geared up to climb the ladders of success through their music. The five-member band told Eastern Mirror during an exclusive interview that they were looking forward to promoting unique modern music and ‘experimental pop.’ In today’s Rhythm of Love, Ascot take us through their musical journey.

EASTERN MIRROR: Please introduce us to the “Ascot” band and the role you each take on.

Ascot: Firstly, we the Ascot band convey our sincere gratitude and appreciation towards Eastern Mirror for this opportunity. Our band members are Temsumongba Ozukum on vocal, Temsu Aichanger on keyboard, Toshi on guitar, Lanu on bass and Imcha on drum.

EASTERN MIRROR: What made you call the band “Ascot”? What does your band name signify?

Our band members are from different Churches; that is why we call ourselves Ascot as it signifies a straight piece of material worn like a tie in the open neck of a shirt.

EASTERN MIRROR: Talk us through the formation of the band?

Our frontman Temsumongba Ozukum took the initiative and formed the band in December 2019.

EASTERN MIRROR: What was the ambition of the band when you started?

Our ambition is to promote a unique modern music on experimental pop.

EASTERN MIRROR: Where was your first performance?

Our first performance was in Guwahati Royal Global University’s ‘Battle of Band 2020’.

EASTERN MIRROR: What genre of music do you think your work belong to?

We consider our work to be pop music.

EASTERN MIRROR: Why did you pick that particular genre? What are your songs about?

These days, more people love to listen to EDM music and pop, so we picked that genre; to bring more people who love pop music.

EASTERN MIRROR: Is there any project in the pipeline?

Yes, we are releasing our first original song soon to reach out to the amazing people who love pop music.
