‘Quality education needed, but fund constraints’

Dimapur, Feb. 10 (EMN): The minister for Higher Education, Imna Along Longkumer believes in the importance of education in the development process of Nagaland and its people.

For this, the legislator has pointed to the need to “develop a strong education system in the state.” However, he laments the “government’s inability to invest where it is needed owing to scarcity of funds.”
The minister visited Phek Government College in Phek district, on February 8. A reception was organised for the legislator in the college’s hall, a press release from the institution stated on Sunday.

The programme was presided over by Dr. Vizovol Mekro, principal of Phek Government College, it stated. Welcoming the minister and his entourage, the principal thanked him for the visit and appraised him of “the immense contributions from the administration, eleven wards and other organisations of Phek town in the hectic preparation of the college much anticipated NAAC peer team visit the following week.”

Addressing the programme, the updates stated, Minister Logkumer expressed appreciation to the people of the district “for their unceasing cooperation and support rendered to the college which he termed as ‘rare’ in the whole of Nagaland.”
Emphasizing on the importance of education in the development process of the state, the legislator was stated to have pointed to the need to “develop a strong education system in the state.” He however lamented the “government’s inability to invest where it is needed owing to scarcity of funds,” the updates quoted him as having claimed.

“He further reminded that Phek Government College is not only for the Chakhesang alone, as he encouraged the students to serve the people of Nagaland once they pass out of the college and work anywhere in the state with sincerity and dedication,” the press release stated.

Also speaking during the programme was the additional director of Higher Education, Watijungshi who encouraged the college to “work harder towards excellence even after the assessment.”
