Council notes ‘gangster attitude,’ combat operation against each other, killing people in front of family members and children, those criminal activities in crowded public places and residential areas’

Dimapur, Aug.22 (EMN): The Naga Council of Dimapur has denounced the recent killing and standoff between two of the Naga underground factions in Dimapur. A strong statement from the organisation noted the “gangster attitude” and the constant ‘threat to peace’ perpetrated by ‘one or the other group.’

The Naga Council issued on Thursday a press release to the local media reminding the factions that the public have had it enough.

Urging the warring factions to restrain themselves, the Naga Council stated that ‘the yearning for peacefulness among the Nagas has been deteriorating due to constant threats to peace that is perpetrated by one or the other NPGs (‘Naga political groups’) through organized crimes and killings.’

“NCD totally condemns and abhors the gun culture that is now spreading in Dimapur area. We do not condone the gangster attitude, combat operation against each other, killing people in front of family members and children, those criminal activities in crowded public places and residential areas.”

The council reminded the armed groups that “wielding gun does not in any way give anyone the license to commit crimes and threaten others.”

The press release stated: “The NCD questions the conduct of NPGs and that general Naga public have had enough, that in the name of Naga movement, our state is marred by factionalism and violence, infighting among leaders leading to emergence of new groups and factions,” the statement reminded.

“It is time for NGPs to strictly discipline respective cadres and members, less our Naga movement remains a problem forever.”

The council has expressed appreciating to the Nagaland government and the law enforcing agencies for the ‘quick handling of the law and order situation in Dimapur.’

The organisation has urged the agencies to implement due measures to contain matters that affect public peace, so that a feeling of security is created and maintained in the community.

The council added that it was looking forward to the governor and interlocutor for Naga Peace talks, RN Ravi, to bring peace and early settlement to the protracted Naga political issue.
